As someone who has spent much of my life working in community spaces in Detroit, that mission resonates deeply with me. I’ve been a fan of Rhiannon Giddens since seeing the Carolina Chocolate Drops live in 2007 at the Detroit Festival of the Arts, and I’m beyond excited to see her perform again—especially alongside Mavis Staples. This experience feels full circle.
