WhyHunger sounded familiar. I couldn’t remember why so I did some research. I read about the Harry Chapin connection, who I grew up listening to from the time I was probably 5 (Taxi was one of those great songs that I listened to growing up, almost on repeat). Pair WhyHunger/Harry Chapin with Puscifer and donating was an easy decision. As much as I wanted to go to the show, it really didn’t matter if someone else won. WhyHunger is doing great things to impact people in a super positive way. I still remember the day Undertow showed up in my mailbox in the early nineties. It was in one of those BMG/Columbia House deliveries that felt like a mysterious treasure. I opened the cardboard package right there on the road. It didn’t take more than 60 seconds of Intolerance to be hooked. Jump ahead to the early 2010s. I’m listening to my “Tool” Pandora station at work, and this voice comes on, it felt like Maynard, but wasn’t Tool or APC. After a quick search, Puscifer became part of the rotation. Hearing Grand Canyon at DeVos seemed like time and reality were suspended, it was wild. Now I’m “old,” with a wife and two boys who’ve taken up bass and drums, the house is rarely quiet. My wife grew up in Mears, MI and still talks about sneaking into Lollapalooza in the late 90s to find her little sister and catch Tool at Val‑Du. This music has been in the mix for our family for years. Between the shows (my 5th, the boy’s 2nd, and Kate’s 3rd time seeing Puscifer), the road trips, and wandering around Cottonwood, Jerome, our first trip to the Grand Canyon this winter, and all the incredible places around central AZ, it’s become more than just music. It’s something we’ve experienced together. We’re all fired up for the show, and yeah this shit ain’t normal...
