Sportsmen For The Boundary Waters
About
Founded in 2015, Sportsmen for the Boundary Waters (SFBW) works to conserve the land, water, and wildlife that make the BWCA an iconic place to fish, camp, hunt, and explore. The organization's mission is to protect the integrity of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) and its watersheds for huntable and fishable populations of fish and wildlife, now and forever, through advocacy and education. In 2024, SFBW launched its Stewardship and Habitat Initiative, focused on "boots on the ground" conservation efforts in and around the BWCAW region.Currently, the Boundary Waters is under direct threats from proposed copper-nickel mining operations directly upstream of the Wilderness area. These efforts have recently received considerable support at both the state and federal levels, with no regard for the likelihood of irreparable harm to the pristine fish and wildlife habitat that has stood for so long. The organization works with stakeholders from across the United States to stress the importance of wild places like the Boundary Waters and tirelessly protects those cherished wild places for generations to come.About the BWCAW: The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is a special place filled with the wonders of the Northwoods and an awe-inspiring landscape shaped by glacial movements millennia ago. At nearly 1.1 million acres, the Boundary Waters spreads across the Northeastern tip of Minnesota, nestled within the Superior National Forest, which holds 20% of the fresh water in the entire National Forest System. The Boundary Waters is a vast boreal forest consisting of interconnected lakes, streams, wetlands, and aquifers that provide some of the best fishing, hunting, camping, and paddling the world has to offer.
